Christmas Ceremony at Fordham BID Bronx

A great event for shoppers and their kids was the fourth annual “Sparkling the Heart of Fordham,” on Dec 5th, in the Bronx, NY. The event included shopping discounts running through December 21st at stores throughout the area. This event took place in a tent, on Fordham Road, from 7 pm to 9 pm, at Bryan Park, crossing Kingsbridge Road. Sponsors of the event include NY Councilman Joel Rivera, Monroe College, the Football Team, the Giants, La Calle Radio, and Banco Popular. This fun event for the kids was EmCeed by Ms. Rhina Valentin, host of the program “Open” on Bronx Net Channel 67. Though the weather was fairly cold, and it was dark outside, the tent gave everyone a feeling of light and safety from the wind. With the gift giving and raffles expected at the event, even by 7 pm the event was crowded with parents and children.

The event began with those 100 kids who came first, receiving tickets to go see Santa Claus, who was sitting in a chair in his red and white suit, and white beard, waiting for the kids. All of these children received gifts, with the first child in line, a young girl named Leila, about 6 or 7 years old. With a little urging from the EmCee, Rhina Valentin, the girl sang an impromptu version of “Jingle Bells.” During the evening, the Holiday lights were turned on, up and down Fordham Road, and a large Christmas tree was put up, decorated with lights and a large star on top. That’s the sparkle hitting the Fordham Road district. See their website at fordhamroadbid.org
