Oak Point Jail Shot Down in the South Bronx

In a strange decision, the Oak Point Jail was stopped in the South Bronx. Who wanted this jail in the first place? On the other hand, if we keep arresting people like wild we do have to put them somewhere. And a lot of people say that Rikers Island is being shut down. Many activists have been campaigning against the jail, including the Sustainable South Bronx crowd, and the Point community center, as well as Congressman Jose Serrano. Martin Horn of the NYC Dept of Corrections says that the City will continue to search for a site for a jail in the South Bronx.
