More on the Mott Haven Bronx Art walk, what happened

Here is some more on the great happenings at the Mott Haven art walk, just across from Harlem, in the Bronx, on June 28th. This all was seen at galleries and studios around Bruckner Blvd and Alexander Ave, in the Bronx. Heidi Sorger is working on her colorful drawings which are untitled, but that she jokingly refers to as drawings of a “vicious amoeba.” Nicole Abahuni has artwork on plastic sheets that is a combination of human graffiti, in English and Arabic, with lines drawn by a little robot. This was done during her visit to Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates. For more information, see www.abahuni.org . Also there, Eric Vigil has been an active artistic and commercial photographer for 18 years. His photographs on display include a somber, dark, photograph of the Queensboro Houses and a crowded, aerial photograph, slightly distorted, of the Manhattan skyscape. An unexpected addition to the Mott Haven art walk was a sidewalk exhibit of the Bronx Council on the Arts, Artisan’s Initiative, headed by Lisa Curran. Artists have been assisted by the BCA in presenting and marketing their works, which range from small block prints for $5, on up. Of note was Diane Davis’ painting of vibrant abstract dancers in motion, and similar figures printed on tank-tops. Her work will be on display at the Chashama Gallery, at 461 W 126th St in Harlem, NY, with a gala opening, July 10th. Another painter, Aleathia Brown had a number of colorful abstract works of what appeared to be villagers in long robes. A second picture was of blocked-in dancers in a swirling background.
